The Mill. A par four played from the front lawn of our magnificent Tudor clubhouse, downhill and approximately 400 yards, keep it straight and it’s a relatively gentle opener. Trees to the left and bunkers to the right

If you overshoot the green with your second shot, you'll have a tricky pitch shot back and possibly near to the wall. Advisable to play it short in Summer.

Tythe Barn. Par four again (five for the Ladies); back up the hill, slightly shorter than the first, but plays much longer, with a prevailing wind. Trees to the left must be avoided off the tee.

Approach shot to an elevated tee requires an extra club. Green slopes from back to front so keep the ball below the hole.

Orchard. A long par three from an elevated tee, be very happy to hit the green in one

Requires a long iron or wood from an elevated tee. The green is well bunkered and a hazard left can punish a wayward tee shot.

Dower House. A long par four (five for the Ladies); hit a straight drive, then downhill and a dogleg to the left. Trees to the left and right

Second shot plays slightly downhill to small narrow green guarded by a bunker and boundary wall. Fairways have a right to left slope

Carr Wood. A short par four, but tricky; aim just right of the fairway bunkers, then attempt to fly it onto an elevated green.

The approach shot to the green requires an extra club to avoid coming up short and catching the greenside bunkers.

Butts. A mid-length par four; be mindful of the ditch short of the green – out of range for most off the tee, but be too far back with your drive and it could catch it with a second shot.

The Cottage. A par three with a pond beyond and our Dormy House as a backdrop (eight twin rooms).

Tee shot favours the left side of the green to avoid the slope to the right. Greenside bunkers to left and right.

Targets. One of the longest par fours in Yorkshire (five for the Ladies), and even longer if the fairway camber kicks your ball left, as it’s a dogleg up to the right. Across a pond from the back tee, out of bounds if straying onto the ninth, over the ditch again, tight line between mature oaks to the green, and bunkers – a par here is a triumph!

Trout House. A par five to complete the front nine, left around the hillside and treeline (not OoB if right onto the 8th), best to avoid the two fairway bunkers, and the ponds – three of them, two to be carried - fairly new and short of the green.

A narrow well bunkered green will penalise errant approach shots.

Cloisters. Our back nine is shorter than the front, but don’t be lulled by this mid-length par three.

Armoury. Shortish par four, but a hidden dip from the tee makes the green elevated – plenty of places to get into trouble if you’re not straight.

Avoid going over the green as it can be a difficult chip back

Tyas. Dogleg four to the left, up the hill (the start of a climb to the 14th green) – if you’re too far left, you’ll block out your line to the green. Don’t try and blast one up the 17th fairway – it’s out of bounds.

Second shot plays much longer than the yardage to a narrow green that favours the right hand side to get a friendly bounce.

Bridle Path. Our shortest par three, but take a moment to catch your breath after the path through the woods, then try to keep it straight to avoid overhanging trees.

Deer Park. Stroke Index two par four for the men, but par five and index 12 for the Ladies. Straight and uphill; several bunkers to avoid.

Keepers Cottage. A short par four across the top of the course, but strategic – three fairway bunkers challenge your drive – should you take them on, or lay up?

Take care not to go through the green as you may have to contend with a boundary wall.

The Spring. A dogleg five to the right. The bravest might try to cut the corner, but it’s fraught with danger. If you’re a slicer, try to control it, and a gentle fade round the end trees is perfect.

One of the trickiest greens at Woodsome so beware!

Cathedral. Perhaps our signature hole? A par four named Cathedral, due to the funnel of trees to be navigated; the further back the tee, the more daunting the drive – has been known to wreck many a card!

Out of bounds if too far right with your drive Green slopes very severely from front to back making putting difficult.

Rimington. Dogleg par four to the right to bring us home – don’t go over the drive onto the practice ground – it’s out of bounds.

Numerous fairway and greenside bunkers. Straight and accurate is the answer.
